It is unfortunate that an elementary school, named in 1996 after a Jennings Scholar, certified master teacher, and later an effective administrator, a person who gave 43 years to enriching the lives of low and moderate income students enrolled in the Cleveland Public School District, had its name subsequently changed when the school moved to a new building. H. Barbara Booker mentored a number of teachers and mentored and encouraged other adults to achieve their educational aspirations. She was the consumate professional who gave her all to the District, retiring a couple of months before her death from advanced colon cancer. And she deserves to be officially remembered for her significant contributions to the city of Cleveland.
