Friday, July 30, 2021; Pop-Up Event to Celebrate Grand Opening of King’s Gas Depot, 3031 Clark Avenue: Chef Peggy Cruz prepares to serve food to guests. Peggy Cruz plans to open her restaurant Cha’Firo at Las Tienditas del Mercado, 2886 W. 25th (W. 25th and Seymour) in September 2021. Allen Moreland Jr., owner of King’s Gas Depot, a full-service station, recruited Cruz for the pop-up event. Hispanic Business Center intern Isaiah Mojica worked to help publicize the event.
