(Plain Press March 2024) March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. The Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Cuyahoga DD) mission is to support and empower people with developmental disabilities to live, learn, work, and play in the community.
People who qualify for services can benefit from our expertise in the following areas and more:
Assistive Technology & Lending Libraries: Cuyahoga DD provides consultation and assistance with technology and OT/PT items to help enhance the quality of one’s life and increase independence. Equipment can be loaned for trial periods. Many items can be demonstrated at our CLE smart-apartment showcase at the William Patrick Day Center.
Family Supports Program: Annual funding for those who live with family or on their own to access camps, respite care, recreation, incontinence supplies and more.
Housing Opportunities: The TryTech smart apartments are short-term rentals in an integrated building for people with DD who would like to try tools and technology for living more independently. Other housing options include: shared homes, living with a group of peers or college students, living independently, or in an Intermediate Care Facility.
Legal Help: Our forensic liaison unit can help people with DD involved in the criminal-justice system.
Support Administration: Helping people with DD develop their individualized care plans, needs assessment, resources, referrals, service provision identification, and more.
Travel Training: Our travel trainers help people with DD learn to be safe while traveling in the community. Travel trainers also help people prepare for the exam to get their temporary driver’s license (temps).
