(Plain Press December 2023) At its Monday November 14th meeting, Cleveland City Council passed Ordinance Number 1153-2023 which provides a $1 million economic development grant to LB Blanket Mill Main, to partially fund the Northern Ohio Blanket Mills mixed use project. The funds were made available from revenue recovery funds the City received from the American Rescue Plan Act fund. This project is located on W. 33rd Street in the Clark Fulton neighborhood and sits directly behind the Lin Omni Center.
The legislation, sponsored by Ward 14 Councilwoman Jasmin Santana, will help with the completion of renovations at this long vacant building. The project had stalled because of increased costs.
According to a press release from Cleveland City Council, Councilwoman Santana has worked to help make this project a reality for more than five years. She has advocated for all the proposed 60 units of one-to-three-bedroom apartments to be open to residents eligible to receive Section 8 housing assistance and worked with Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority to make this possible.
Plans call for the finished building to also house various nonprofit organizations that provide services to the neighborhood.
