(Plain Press November 2025) The Tamir Rice Foundation in association with the Cleveland-based theatre company Powerful Long Ladder will present the play Objectively/Reasonable: A Community Response to the Shooting of Tamir Rice on November 8th at 6:45 p.m. at Near West Theatre, 6702 Detroit Avenue.
Directed by award-winning former Karamu House Artistic Director Terrence Spivey, this searing production features visceral monologues crafted by five local playwrights in collaboration with Cleveland’s Playwrights Local, revisiting a crucial narrative that demands our attention.
This production marks a significant return to a work that has previously made an indelible impact. First premiered in 2016 and revived in 2017, Objectively/Reasonable has garnered critical acclaim, numerous awards, and national recognition, including dramatized excerpts featured on Going There, a National Public Radio program hosted by former ABC Nightline reporter and Emmy Award winner Michel Martin.
This latest reimagining introduces acclaimed actress and director Phyllis Yvonne Stickney as a special guest, expanding the original production through the integration of movement, song, music, and multimedia. This layered and immersive experience poignantly captures the spirit of twelve-year-old Tamir Rice, confronting the harsh realities of police brutality while honoring his life and the community’s enduring response to his tragic death.
Objectively/Reasonable stands as a vital cultural and social response, amplifying voices of grief, resilience, and a demand for justice. It serves not only as a memorial but also as a call to action, ensuring that Tamir Rice’s story remains at the forefront of the national conversation. Join us in this essential dialogue and witness the power of community storytelling.
