Safety Tip of the Month
PERSONAL SAFETY: While walking, jogging, or biking
(Plain Press, August 2015)
Send the message while you are out and about that you are calm, and confident.
Avoid isolated areas. Use familiar routes in well-lit, populated areas, and avoid alleys, deserted or wooded areas and parking lots. Especially at night, bike or jog with a friend and wear reflective clothing. Don’t use stereo headphones so you can remain aware of your surroundings.
Accept rides only from people you know, and trust. If harassed by someone in a car, quickly walk or run in the opposite direction, toward safety. If you become frightened, or attacked, yell loudly for help.
