(Plain Press, April 2011) Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC), located on Market Avenue in Ohio City, announced that three of its ales received gold medals at the 2011 World Beer Championships conducted by the Beverage Testing Institute of Chicago. The award winning ales were Commodore Perry India Pale Ale, Burning River Pale Ale and Conway’s Irish Ale.
Commodore Perry scored 92 points in its category “India Pale Ale”, giving it a rating of “Exceptional”. Burning River scored 91 points in its category “American Style Pale Ale”, also giving it a rating of “Exceptional”. Conway’s Irish Ale scored 90 and a rating of “Exceptional” in the “Irish Style Ale” category.
Since GLBC’s inception in 1988, these three beers have garnered 17 gold medals collectively at the World Beer Champoinships, with Burning River achieving “World Champion” status in 1994. The World Beer Championships are considered one of the major beer judging events throughout the world.
