Passion for Change seeks media professionals to help combat stigma of mental illness

(Plain Press, May 2016) On April 4, Passion for Change, a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the stigma of mental illness, held a meet and greet with local media professionals at the Wine Bar in Crocker Park to recruit volunteers for a Greater Cleveland Pilot Project called Communicators for Mental Health.

The goal of the pilot project is to recruit marketing and communications professionals and then provide them with training through an online certificate course titled, Understanding Mental Illness, Addiction, Stigma & Advocacy. Once the marketing and communications professionals have completed the course, they are asked to make a commitment to be an informal advocate for mental health.

Passion for Change then matches these media professionals with non-profit mental health organizations in need of help from media professionals in different areas of their operation but don’t have funds to pay for the service.

Organizations working in the field of mental health or addiction that need help that have signed on for the first phase of the Passion for Change Pilot project include: Centers for Families and Children, Mental Health Services, May Dugan Center, NAMI Greater Cleveland, Recovery Resources, Spectrum of Supportive Services and the Suicide Prevention Education Alliance.

Marilyn Mongeon Quill, president and founding director of the organization, says she conceived the idea for Passion for Change while working on a graduate studies thesis. For more information on how to participate in this pilot project or about Passion for Change call 216-496-3295 or email:
