(Plain Press, March 2017) The Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization’s 43rd annual meeting, on February 23rd at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, featured speeches by Mark McDermott of Enterprise Community Partners and Ward 15 Councilman Matt Zone; a video tribute to the late Judge Raymond Pianka; the presentation of awards; and Board of Directors’ election results.
In the Board of Directors’ election: Eileen Kelly of St. Colman Church was re-elected to another term as an institutional representative. Teresa McCurry of New Beginnings Ministry was also elected to serve as an institutional representative. Commercial Representatives elected to the Board are: Anna Perlmutter of Cleveland Housing Solutions and Dean Van Farowe of Calvary Reformed Church. Moneeke Davis was elected as an At Large Representative.
Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization’s board Vice Chair Donna Gonyon was recognized by Board Chairman Joe Tegreene for her 30 years of service to the organization.
Abbe DeMaio received the Irene Catlin Award for her advocacy as a block club leader. Christopher Stocking received the Sustainability Award and the Sean Kilbane Award was given to Nikki Gelatta of the Gypsy Beans.
Community Spirit award recipients were Howard Grandon, Calley Mersmann, Jeff Taylor, Scott Kroehle and Anna Perimutter, Terry Metter, and members of the Franklin Reading Garden Committee.
Neighborhood Improvement Awards were given to: Kyle Lawrence and KC Stilak, 1904 W. 58: Esbeey & Peter Madera, 7009 Colgate; Graham Binnig & Alana Jochum, 1947 W. 61; Howard Grandon, Cheerio Building/Banter; WIRE Properties & Diversified Contractors, 5908 Madison and 6018 Madison; and Astoria, 5417 Detroit Avenue.
