Thursday, April 20, 2023; Community Culture Night with Darice Polo, Art House, 3119 Denison Avenue: Darice Polo, a professor at Kent State School of Art, shares slides and videos of her artwork with area residents. Polo showed slides and videos of her drawings of events taken from her family’s photos, family history and visits to Puerto Rico to examine how her family’s history relates to the plight of the Puerto Rican people. The artwork explores her grandparents’ migration to New York City in 1927, the family’s life in the Bronx, the plight of Puerto Rico, and the impact of United States colonialization on the island and its people.

Friday, April 21, 2023; Cleveland Marriot Downtown at Key Tower: Ohio City resident and Attorney Anthony Coyne ‘78 is awarded The Honorable Leo M. Spellacy ’52 Bellarmine Award from Saint Ignatius Alumni Association. Presenting the award is Rev Raymond Guiao, S.J. ’82, President and Chief Mission Officer. The Honorable Leo M. Spellacy ’52 Bellarmine Award recognizes an alumnus for excellence in the legal field, promotion of fair and ethical principles in law, and exemplary service to Saint Ignatius High School.

Saturday, April 22, 2023; Community Earth Day Festival, City Life Center, 3340 Trowbridge Avenue: (L-R) Roberto Clemente Baseball League Coach Darien Murdock and baseball players De’Anthony Murdock, age 8; De’Manny Murdock, age 10; and Kenniel Ortiz, age 11 try out some donated wooden bats.  A community effort is underway to revive the Roberto Clemente Baseball League in the Clark Fulton neighborhood. The league is seeking donations of new and used baseball equipment and cash to help get the league restarted. Thursday, April 20, 2023; 1545 W. 25th Street: A construction worker in a diesel-powered shovel clears up the site of what was once a location where Front Steps provided permanent, supportive housing for the chronically homeless. To make way for a new Irishtown Bend Park planned for this location, Front Steps moved south to 2554 W. 25th Street to St. Joseph Commons at the former Forest City Foundry site.
