(Plain Press March 2025) On February 13th members of the Neighborhood and Community Media Association of Greater Cleveland met with Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb for a Roundtable discussion at WOVU 95.9 FM Radio Station on Kinsman Road. Each media outlet was able to ask Mayor Bibb one question.
Plain Press Managing Editor Chuck Hoven asked Mayor Bibb, now that the Cleveland Browns no longer desire to play in the downtown stadium, if the City of Cleveland would be willing to increase funds to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District for its Comprehensive Extracurricular Activities Program (CEAP). CEAP’s funding was reduced from $2 million dollars a year to about $1 million a year over a decade ago, and the program never regained the lost funding. The funds that were promised to CEAP were instead used to pay for repairs and improvements at the Brown’s football stadium.
Mayor Bibb said he was not willing to restore the funds to CEAP at this time due to ongoing negotiations with the Browns over the future location of the stadium. He said the City of Cleveland has invested $3.5 million in programs for youth at Cleveland’s recreation centers.
